Individual Giving
Supporting the Prouty Center is an opportunity to make an investment and a difference in the lives of many young children in our community. You can donate in a number of ways:
Sustainers Circle for Children
The Sustainers’ Circle for Children is our monthly giving program. Currently, the Sustainers’ Circle is a small group of dedicated supporters, each of whom gives a personalized gift amount that works for them. We invite you to become a part of this circle by setting up a monthly donation today.
Qualified Charitable Distribution from IRA
If you are an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) owner over the age of 70 1/2, you can unlock the power of your savings to make a difference in the lives of others with a Qualified Charitable Distribution.
The Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) rule allows you to directly support your local community while offering tax advantages for your household. A QCD is a nontaxable distribution made directly by the trustee of your IRA to an organization eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. This type of gift can reduce your income taxes by lowering your adjusted gross income.
Additionally, if you are required to take a minimum distribution from your IRA, a qualified charitable distributions can satisfy all or part the amount of you must withdraw, offering enhanced benefits for you and the benefiting organization.
Giving with a QCD
- To make a QCD, you must be 70 1/2 years or older
- QCDs can be made from Traditional, Rollover or Inherited IRAs
- Donations of up to $108,000 (in 2025) can be made to a qualified charity
- QCDs can count towards your Required Minimum Distribution if you are 73 years or older
Qualified charitable distributions are a strategic way to boost your philanthropic impact while maximizing tax benefits. To make a QCD to the Winston Prouty Center, contact your financial planner or IRA account holder.
Stock/Securities Transfer
We are grateful to accept donations of stock, bonds and other assets to support our services for local families. For securities held longer than one year, you can deduct their full fair market value, regardless of what you originally paid for them while avoiding a capital gains tax.
To make a contribution via stock, have your financial planner initiate a transfer by contacting Angela Bowman, Trust Company of Vermont, 802-231-2765.
Please notify our development team when making a gift of stock to let us know that you have initiated the transfer.
Planned Giving
Planned giving is a meaningful way to make a commitment to our community now and into the future. By including the Winston Prouty Center in your estate plans, you leave a legacy that lasts beyond your lifetime. Contributions can be made as bequest, gifts of property, gifts of life insurance, charitable annuities or trust.
Donor Advised Funds
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a tax-advantaged, charitable investment account operated by a sponsoring organization (such as Vermont Community Foundation) that allows you to make tax-deductible contributions, grow them tax-free, and recommend grants to qualified charities over time. It acts as a flexible, personal philanthropic “savings account” for giving.
Contributions can be made as cash, securities or other assets and are tax deductible in the year they are made. Because assets can grow-tax free, it gives you the opportunity to further maximize your giving power. Another benefit to a DAF is that the sponsoring organization simplifies the administrative burden – it handles all record-keeping and tax reporting on your behalf.
