World Breastfeeding Week: August 1-7, 2019

World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals and organisations dedicated to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide. Annually, WABA coordinates and organizes the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) between Aug 1-7.

Local events to celebrate this week include:

The Global Big Latch-On – Friday, August 2 at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St Brattleboro, 5:00-6:00pm

VT Department of Health Social Medial Campaign – Submit your photo

This year’s World Breastfeeding Week theme is “Empower parents, enable breastfeeding.” The Vermont Department of Health is looking for pictures of breastfeeding (recent or older), along with stories of who or what empowered you to breastfeed. This could be a family member, a friend, a nurse, or even your employer! Pics will be posted on their FB page in August, and shared to other local pages like the Brattleboro Parents Network and New Moms Network. Please include your real life story- even if it’s just a sentence or two- and be creative! Please submit pictures to debra.kitzmiller@vermont.gov. They will send you a consent to give  permission to post it. Deadline to submit is August 1st.
