Support our community’s Bookmobile program!

The Bookmobile is gearing up to get back on the road, and we are looking for support to ensure this unique program can remain a vital resource for children, families, and educators in our region.

The Bookmobile started 24 years ago when Windham County Reads recognized that making books more accessible in a rural area like Windham County would have a positive impact on child development and adult learning. In 2012, the Bookmobile became a part of Windham Child Care Association, and transformed into the Early Learning Express (ELE); it now lives at Winston Prouty. The program serves 550 children in 37 programs with 130 early educators from Stratton to Brattleboro, Wilmington to the West River Valley.

While the program runs year-round, the actual Bookmobile is on the road from April through November. This is the one program at Prouty that totally relies on support from foundations and individual donors like you. With an annual cost of $65,000 for staffing, travel and material expenses, it is an affordable way to reach hundreds of children throughout the region.

Please consider a gift today or a sustaining monthly gift to help ensure that this essential program stays on the road.

Thank you!

The Bookmobile means so much to our families! The children are always looking forward to Sueño’s visit and the families and children definitely have the ELE as part of their routine.
