Winston Prouty Center Seeks to “Raise the Roof” for Early Learning Express Bookmobile.

Winston Prouty Bookmobile

The boxy green and purple Early Learning Express Bookmobile (ELE) is traveling the hills and byways of Windham County bringing puppets, stories, songs and library of books to almost 40 early care and learning programs. The bookmobile is a beloved and effective program enhancing early literacy skills, delivering arts inspiration and the joy of reading to over 500 children and adults each year.

As the ELE begins its second summer as a program of the Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development, the Center is seeking funds to renovate a new home for it on the Prouty campus.

“We have a garage for the bookmobile, but the door is too small, and the space needs a bit of work before we can park inside,” said Early Childhood Outreach Specialist, Sueño LeBlond. “The bookmobile has served Windham County in one form or another for 17 years.  It has been so well cared for and by keeping it properly sheltered, we know that it can continue to delight and inspire people for a long time.”
