Prouty Pickles

Join us to make Prouty Pickles!

What is Prouty Pickles?

It’s a fundraiser for our Farm to School Program. We receive generous donations of cucumbers from local farms including Pete’s Farm Stand and Wild Carrot Farm along with cucumbers from our school garden. At our Prouty Pickling Party, preschoolers, staff, and volunteers turn these cucumbers into delicious pickles which we will then sell to raise money for our garden!

What is Farm to School?

Farm to School runs a garden which doubles as an outdoor classroom for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years to participate in growing food, explore flavors of new produce, and build an early foundation for cooking healthy food. We hope to foster a deep connection with where food comes from. Nora is our Garden Coordinator, and the rest of the team helps her with the funds and behind-the-scenes planning she needs to create magic in the garden!

How can you help???

-Donate ingredients!

Please consider adding an item or two to your grocery list or check what’s already in your pantry. We especially need onions, garlic, fresh dill, apple cider vinegar, and pickling spices: mustard seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, celery seeds, cinnamon stick, allspice berries, whole cloves, and turmeric. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of our main entrance at 209 Austine Drive.

-Donate your time!

Stop by for any amount of time during the day on Friday, July 25 to help with the pickling! Truly, every pair of hands helps, even if you just drop by for a few minutes! We will be chopping cucumbers, mixing brine ingredients, placing pickles in jars, water bath canning, and tying tags onto each jar. You might learn something new about pickling!

-Spread the word!

If you know someone who might like to help, mention Prouty Pickles and the ways they can get involved. It’s a great opportunity to get involved with a program and fundraiser that the kids really connect with!

And of course, stay tuned for the pickle sale. Jars of pickles will be available for purchase after July 25!
