M&T Bank Foundation supports Winston Prouty Bookmobile

The Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development (WPC) announces that M&T Bank Foundation has awarded a $5000 grant to the organization’s Early Learning Express Bookmobile Program.

The Early Learning Express Bookmobile brings a mobile lending library and literacy enrichment activities to early care and learning programs, after school programs and summer food program sites throughout Windham County, Vermont.

“M&T Bank Foundation is pleased to provide this donation to the Winston Prouty Center,” said Kathy Schirling, Vice President, Divisional Community Involvement Manager, M&T Bank. “We are fortunate to have WPC in our community as they are an anchor in southern Vermont, providing much needed services for families and children in our area. The Early Learning Express Bookmobile will provide a strong start to children as they begin their educational journey.”

According to the Early Education Outreach Specialist Sueño LeBlond who is the bookmobile librarian, 550 children and 125 providers were served, 7454 books were borrowed, and 750 story times were shared last year.

The Early Learning Express Bookmobile is the only program of the WPC that is funded entirely by philanthropy. “We are grateful for M&T’s donation and their commitment to support local children and families,” said Chloe Learey, Winston Prouty Center Executive Director. “Their contribution is essential to our efforts to keep the vehicle on the road. The free program is made possible only with support from the community, including individual donors, local business sponsorship and grants from foundations such as M&T.”

Founded in 1969, the Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development provides inclusive education and family support to promote the success of children and families. Learn more at www.winstonprouty.org.
