Sally Pennington’s celebrated as the “Breast of Brattleboro”

The local World Breastfeeding Week planning team is pleased to announce that this year’s winner of the “Breast of Brattleboro” award is Sally Pennington, RNC, IBCLC, RLC. Sally is the Children’s Integrated Services’ Maternal Child Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant at the Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development.

Last year, the team started a tradition in Brattleboro to honor someone who supports breastfeeding. This summer, they again asked community members to vote for one person whose support made a difference in their breastfeeding experience; someone that empowers others to start or keep breastfeeding. The recipient could be anyone- a lactation professional, a friend, a nurse, whoever they wanted. Votes were submitted via email and Facebook. The winner was determined by number of votes.

This year, the team received over two dozen accounts of how Sally deserves this award. She “meets people exactly where they are” and is described as a “saint”, “incredibly passionate and knowledgeable” and “calm and respectful”, according to some of the many nominations that came in for her.

There will be a celebration to recognize Sally and the contribution she has made to the community on Thursday, September 5 from 9:00-10:00 am the Winston Prouty Center (209 Austine Dr). Coffee, tea and morning snacks will be served. All are welcome: community members, co-workers, friends!
